so much so much!

So many riffs So many ideas so much that needs to be branched.

My piano teacher once told me to play music the same way I choose colors when painting.

The colors we choose to paint on paper themselves are what evoke emotions from the observer--essentially, we have power over reactions that are yet to come. We are our own time machines that way. We hold feelings that people haven't even felt yet.
It may be true that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', but what isn't usually considered is that beholders' perceptions of beauty stem from the artists themselves. The artist birthed the beauty for the beholder. The artist birthed a plate of emotion and handed it to the beholder to react to.
The brush strokes which created a purple and midnight-blue pond with a lonely lily pad (props to Monet), are what SLURP FEELINGS out of people's minds.

We are mind slurpers and we don't even know it. And music is the exact same way.

This may or may not make any sense, but I think it's pretty fucking remarkable.

Sun nuS

i blame it on the sun
inspires my creativity to turn on after the cold winter.
played basketball in kingston, then went on a hike with Ro and Nelle. sat on top of mountain and discussed the ideas of leaving a mark on the world after we all kick the bucket.
what will we leave behind?

music. something to think about.

"Little People"
and
"Furry Friend"

two songs that may possibly be on the final disc.

thoughts of artwork for the album has begun (doodling during priest's and lambert's class).
thinking of just a back and a cover 'sleeve'

getting into the studio soon.
enough songs to get started.

8 songs so far.

immobile

During dance class I did a silly leap which resulted in a silly sprained ankle and a broken/cracked pinkytoe bone.
Crutches. Ankle brace. Foot cast. (I look pretty badass).

But unfortunately this is keeping me from going upstate to record, and from playing music altogether (for the time being)
which is slowly killing me.

Hopefully in three weeks this mess will be over...!

¡stop procrastinating, nina!

So much homework.........but...so....indifferent....././.../..././....
Compared to everything else happening around/in front/behind/above/below us, its significance is minuscule.

I just wanna do what I dig!

doggys

i finally got my hands on attempting to figure out the ways of the mandolin!!!!
will be thrown onto a track or two on this little album.

i do this for sonia.

Hey all, Nina here.

I'm new to this whole "blogging" thang...I'm also kinda new to this whole "writing about what's on my mind for a lot of people to read" thang. But Noah said I should contribute to the blog, so here I am. Try to bear with me here.

I just got home from Noah's today, which I'm pretty sad about--being upstate is such a nice (peaceful) change from Brooklyn. It's a breath o' fresh air.
We didn't get to record as much as we wanted, which is probably because we both had about 32384039 different songs/ideas we wanted to work on and so little time. It's hard to get stuff done when you have ideas exploding out of your ears...!
We ended up recorded one song, "Paper Bows", which happened unexpectedly but sounds great. The unexpected stuff is always the best.

I'm pretty excited to start About Drowning, especially because my music career (up until this point) has consisted of playing piano in my house with the headphones on/playing guitar on my bed next to my cat, who's a pretty spectacular audience member. Over the past few years I've been sending my music to a select few via iChat, which is cool but lacks...depth? I've wanted to collaborate with people/play live shows for a while (lucky for me, Noahs got the goods!).

We'll see what happens.

It's Going To Be YOU and Me

hey kids

sorry for the looooooooong delay. stuff has been all over the place...

things have changed in a great, slightly unexpected, but wonderful way:
this project is no longer just Noah London and his solo project. it's a collaborative project now joined by the beautiful Nina Ryser.
we have joined forces. we write music to/with each other to begin with on the side. why not make it the real thing?
after lugging nina upstate from brooooklyn to my neck of the woods, we began our work of becoming a duo. we now have 9
songs/ideas already in the making.

the plan is still the same:
1. write all original music
2. record all the songs felt necessary for final product
3. finish CD by June 2010
4. play live shows for all of you guys
5. see where we go...

when writing, we want to approach our music with the mindset of performing it live. we want the audience to be a part of the show!

we'll both continue to add to this blog to let everyone know what's going on in our minds, and how the music's going!

Interview.

i spent the day with my good friend Ethan who is working on a blogg/magazine called The Young Eight Four Five.
you should all take a view at his page.
good stuff.

Vocal Recording

spent a couple hours last night with dakota in the studio working on the vocal parts for Bridge View. it's sounding pretty good, but i feel that i need to add Nina's voice to tie it all together, so i'm putting that song on hold till we can get her in the studio, hopefully the weekend of the 22nd.

trying to get jake in by next week.

Violins

VIOLINS
VIOLINS
VIOLINS
VIOLINS

my grandmother found her old violin and handed it over to me. it's in some pretty rough conditions, but i've got the hook up to get it fixed up.

my good buddy jacob from the Gentleman's C, offered to teach me some of the basics. hopefully i'll pick it up easily. jacob will also be tracking violin parts on the song Smells So Good To Sleep In.

4 songs ready to record for the album:

Smells So Good To Sleep In
Stories Of Kids
Bridge View (guitar tracks done)
When Rum Goes Down A Little Easier, Tomorrow

I've also started thinking about the album artwork and extras.
planning on asking my friends eli and sophia for help.

i also just got my eye on the RC-20XL loop pedal which would just be beautiful to get my hands on.
not cheap...

so everything is starting to move along

be sure to go see Ask For Lisa this weekend @ the High Falls Cafe Jan. 9th and the Polish Club Jan. 10th.
